The Brinkmann Armormax single AA LED (model 809-1095-0) flashlight is one of my favorite lights.

If you are tired of all the aluminum flashlights out there you should take a look at this Brinkmann.

It is made from reinforced nylon and is super tough.

Light activation is via a tail cap push button switch and it runs on a single readily available AA battery, one of which is included with this flashlight.

Please note that the packaging for this flashlight is misleading when it states that the switch has momentary on/off capability.

The momentary function only works from the on position (i.e. momentary off) rather than the off position (i.e. momentary on).

That is, when the flashlight is off and you push the button you only get constant on. But if you push the button slightly while the light is on you get momentary off and if you push the button completely you get constant off.

Check out www.brightguy.com for more info.

I am a big fan of Browning flashlights and currently have seven different Browning’s.

My most recent acquisition is the “Tactical Hunter 160″ where the 160 indicates the amount of lumens generated.

It runs on a single CR123A lithium battery, is 4.10 inches long, and features aluminum construction. The tail cap switch has momentary-on capability but is not recessed so the light can’t stand on its tail. The switch also has a lock-out feature to prevent accidental operation.

As its name implies, Browning designed this as a hunting flashlight; therefore, they have given it a Mossy Oak camouflage finish. They also provide 3 lens filters (red, green, & blue) for blood tracking, and other hunting uses.

One of my favorite features of this light is the pocket clip. It is designed for extremely low pocket carry and is barely noticeable in one’s pocket. This low carry capability makes the light less likely to disappear from one’s pocket accidently.

I believe that Browning no longer offers this particular model, i.e. it isn’t shown on their company website, but I was able to get mine from here and at a great price.

One other thing I should mention is that the lens provides a focused square beam rather than a circular beam. While I don’t consider this to be a draw back others might.

If you are looking for a flashlight that has a unique design when compared to most of the lights on the market, then you should check out ICON’s line of flashlights designed by Paul Kim.

The Rogue and Modus line of flashlights feature a unique open architecture that serves two purposes:

1) It allows the lights to dissipate heat very effectively.

2) It helps provide a secure grip.

The Rogue series consists of two different models each in one of three different colors:

The Rogue 1 features a 4.5″ aluminum body and runs on a single AA battery. Two different output levels (6 & 50 lumens) are accessed via the tailcap “clickie” button.

Green ICON Rogue 1 Flashlight

Black ICON Rogue 1 Flashlight

The Rogue 2 features a 6.5″ aluminum body and runs on 2 AA batteries. It also features two output levels (10 & 100 lumens) and a tailcap “clickie” switch.

ICON Black Rogue 2 Flashlight

The Modus series consists of two different flashlights:

The Modus 1 has a 4″ high-strength polymer body, a TIR (total internal reflection) lens, and runs on a single AA battery. It also features two different output levels.

ICON Modus 1 Flashlight

The Modus 2 has a 6″ polymer body, a total internal reflection lens, two different output modes, and runs on two AA batteries.

ICON Modus 2 Flashlight

Next up is the ICON Solo. It is designed as a penlight and features a secure pocket clip. The 5.5″ aluminum body is titanium grey and holds 2 AAA batteries. Once again two different output levels (2 & 16 lumens) are available.

ICON Solo Flashlight

Next is the ICON Link. It is called the Link because it features a built-in non-load bearing carabiner link. The 4″ orange body is aluminum and holds a single AA battery. Both a TIR lens and two output levels are included.

Finally we get to the Irix headlamp series which consists of two different models.

The Irix runs on one AA battery and features 5 LED’s that emit light from 5 to 35 lumens. It has a range of up to 98 feet.

ICON Irix Headlamp

The Irix II also runs on one AA battery and features 5 LED’s. However, the LED’s emit from 5 to 50 lumens of light, and the range is reduced to 49 feet.
